Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G: Price, Specifications, Features and Review

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G is a premium Android tablet designed for people who want a large display, powerful performance, and a flexible device for work, study, entertainment, and creative projects. With its 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and 5G connectivity, it offers features suited to demanding everyday tasks.

But is the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G worth buying? Who will benefit most from its features, and can it replace a laptop? In this guide, we will explore its specifications, expected value for different users, advantages, disadvantages, and the things you should consider before buying it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G: Key Specifications

Specifications are based on the available listing and may vary by market or model. The listed price is an approximate reference, not a confirmed local retail price.

Design and Build Quality

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G features a slim design with a premium metal frame and back. At just 5.1mm thick, it is remarkably thin for a tablet with such a large screen.

Its 14.6-inch size makes it more suitable for desk use, studying, and productivity than for holding in one hand for long periods. The tablet weighs approximately 692–695 grams, so carrying it in a backpack should be manageable, although it is heavier than smaller tablets.

The IP68 rating is another useful feature. It indicates protection against dust and water under specified laboratory conditions. However, water resistance can diminish over time, and it should not be treated as a guarantee against every type of liquid damage.

Overall, the design is particularly attractive to professionals and students who want a large-screen device without the bulk of a traditional laptop.

14.6-Inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display

One of the biggest reasons to consider the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G is its display.

The tablet features a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a resolution of 1848 × 2960 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports HDR10+ and has a listed peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits.

Why is this display useful?

For watching movies: The large AMOLED panel can deliver rich colors, deep blacks, and a more immersive viewing experience. It is suitable for watching movies, television shows, and online videos.

For students: A large screen allows students to read digital textbooks, view lecture slides, and keep notes open alongside educational videos.

For office workers: Spreadsheets, presentations, documents, and browser windows have more room than they would on a standard tablet.

For creative professionals: Designers and illustrators can benefit from the spacious workspace and stylus support.

The 120Hz refresh rate can also make scrolling and supported animations feel smoother. However, the large screen is not equally convenient for everyone. If you mainly read while travelling or prefer using a tablet with one hand, a smaller device may be more comfortable.

Performance: MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Processor

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, a 3nm processor paired with the Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 graphics processor.

It is designed for demanding workloads, including multitasking, productivity applications, supported games, video playback, and creative software.

The available configurations include 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage, and 16GB of RAM with 1TB of storage.

This combination should provide plenty of memory for running several applications, managing large projects, and switching between tasks. Actual performance will depend on the software, workload, thermal conditions, and application optimization.

Is it good for gaming?

The powerful processor and 120Hz display make the tablet an interesting option for mobile gamers. Its large screen can provide a more immersive experience in supported games.

However, not every game supports high refresh rates, and performance varies by title. Gamers who depend on specific emulators, PC game-streaming tools, or compatibility with particular graphics features should check those requirements before purchasing. The Dimensity processor is not a Snapdragon chip, so compatibility with software that specifically requires Snapdragon hardware may differ.

For casual and demanding Android gaming, the hardware looks promising, but real-world gaming benchmarks are needed to establish its performance against competing tablets.

Storage Options for Work and Entertainment

Storage is another important advantage of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G.

The available options are 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. It also supports a dedicated microSDXC card slot, allowing users to expand storage for compatible files and applications.

Here is a simple way to choose the right version:

• 256GB: Suitable for students, everyday users, and people who mostly use cloud storage.
• 512GB: A practical option for professionals, frequent travellers, and users who keep many files offline.
• 1TB: Better suited to large creative projects, extensive media libraries, and users who work with large files.

Expandable storage is especially useful for storing downloaded videos, photographs, documents, and other supported content without relying entirely on internal storage.

Remember that a microSD card does not necessarily increase the space available for every application. App installation and storage behavior depend on Android and the individual app.

Camera Quality and Video Calls

The tablet includes two rear cameras: a 13MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera. On the front, there is a 12MP ultrawide camera.

The rear cameras support video recording at up to 4K at 30 frames per second, according to the listed specifications. The front camera also supports 4K video recording at 30fps.

Who will benefit from these cameras?

The front ultrawide camera is particularly useful for video meetings, online classes, and virtual discussions. Its wide field of view can help include more people in the frame.

Students can use the camera to scan documents or photograph classroom materials, while office workers can join online meetings without needing a separate webcam for basic communication.

However, a tablet this large is not the most convenient device for everyday photography. Its cameras are better considered practical tools for communication and occasional pictures rather than a replacement for a dedicated camera or a high-end smartphone camera system.

Battery Life and 45W Charging

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G comes with an 11,600mAh battery and supports 45W wired charging.

The large battery capacity is suitable for a device intended for extended study sessions, office work, entertainment, and travel. However, battery life will depend on screen brightness, network signal, gaming, video playback, and the applications being used.

Using 5G or running demanding games can consume more power than reading documents or watching locally stored videos.

The listed charging specification indicates a full charge in approximately 95 minutes under the stated testing conditions. Actual charging times can vary depending on the charger, temperature, battery level, and charging settings. Check what charging accessories are included with the device before buying.

For people who work away from a power outlet, the battery capacity is appealing, but it is still sensible to carry a compatible charger during long working days.

5G Connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 and Samsung DeX

The 5G version of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra supports cellular connectivity, while the Wi-Fi model is intended for use with wireless networks.

A cellular connection can be useful for people who travel frequently, work outside the office, or need internet access when Wi-Fi is unavailable. Network compatibility depends on the supported bands and the user’s carrier.

The tablet also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, according to the listed specifications. These features can help with compatible wireless networks and accessories.

Samsung DeX: Can it replace a laptop?

Samsung DeX provides a desktop-style interface that can make supported applications easier to use with a keyboard, mouse, and larger workspace.

For example, a freelancer could use the tablet to answer emails, edit documents, attend meetings, manage projects, and work in browser-based tools. A student could take notes while referencing online materials, while a business user could prepare presentations and review spreadsheets.

However, a desktop-style interface does not make Android identical to Windows or macOS. Some professional applications, desktop software, development tools, and complex workflows may not be fully supported.

For basic office work, the tablet may reduce the need to carry a laptop. For specialized software or a full desktop workflow, a laptop can still be the better choice.

Why Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G a Good Choice?

The tablet’s strongest feature is the way its hardware works together. It combines a large, high-quality display with powerful processing hardware, expandable storage, stylus support, a substantial battery, and optional cellular connectivity.

Here are the main reasons it could be worth considering.

1. A large screen for multitasking

The 14.6-inch display gives users more space to view documents, work with supported split-screen applications, and move between tasks. This can be particularly valuable for people who spend hours working or studying on a screen.

2. Suitable hardware for demanding work

The Dimensity 9500 processor and up to 16GB of RAM provide a strong hardware foundation for multitasking and demanding Android applications. This makes the tablet appealing to professionals who want more than a basic media-consumption device.

3. A flexible device for studying

With stylus support, a large display, and expandable storage, the tablet can serve as a digital notebook, reading device, and portable learning station. Students can organize notes and documents in one place.

4. Useful for creative projects

Illustrators, designers, and other creative users can benefit from the large canvas and stylus support. The actual value will depend on whether their preferred creative applications offer the features they need on Android.

5. Convenient for travel and remote work

The relatively thin body, large battery, and 5G connectivity on the cellular version make it useful for people who need to work while travelling. A compatible keyboard can make longer writing sessions more comfortable.

6. Room to grow with expandable storage

The microSDXC slot provides additional flexibility for users who need to keep large collections of files, videos, and documents.

Who Should Buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G?

This tablet is not designed for everyone. Its large screen, premium positioning, and high listed price make it most attractive to people who will take advantage of its advanced features.

Is it good for students?

Yes, it can be a useful study device for students who regularly read PDFs, attend online classes, take digital notes, and work with multiple documents. The large display is particularly helpful for reading and comparing materials.

However, students should consider the cost of a keyboard, stylus accessories if needed, and any paid applications. A more affordable tablet may be sufficient for basic browsing and note-taking.

Is it good for freelancers?

The tablet can suit freelancers who mainly work with browser-based platforms, documents, email, meetings, and productivity applications.

For web designers and developers, it may be useful for reviewing websites, managing clients, reading code, and making simple edits in compatible tools. However, complex local development environments and desktop-only software can make a laptop a more practical primary workstation.

Is it good for business owners?

Business owners can use it to review reports, prepare presentations, manage communications, and join online meetings. Samsung DeX and a compatible keyboard can make these tasks more convenient.

Whether it is a good investment depends on how much of the business workflow can be completed using Android applications.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G Price

The available GSMArena listing places the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra at approximately €1,570. This is a reference price, not a confirmed price for every market.

The actual retail price can differ depending on the storage version, taxes, retailer, promotions, and included accessories.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G vs a Laptop

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G can be an excellent portable productivity device, but it is not automatically a laptop replacement.

If your daily tasks involve browser-based tools, meetings, writing, reading, and note-taking, the tablet could be a practical alternative to carrying a laptop.

If you need advanced desktop applications, complex programming environments, specialized business software, or extensive file-management workflows, a laptop may be the safer choice.

Final Verdict: Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G Worth Buying?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G is a premium Android tablet aimed at users who want a large display, powerful hardware, flexible connectivity, and productivity features in a slim device.

Its 14.6-inch AMOLED display is a major attraction, while the Dimensity 9500 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, expandable storage, stylus support, and Samsung DeX make it appealing for work and study.

It may be an especially good fit for university students with demanding digital study needs, freelancers who use compatible online tools, creative professionals, and business users who value portability and a large workspace.

On the other hand, its high price, large dimensions, and Android software limitations mean that it will not be the best choice for everyone. Casual users may find a smaller, less expensive tablet more practical, while people who depend on desktop-only applications may prefer a laptop.

Our recommendation: Consider the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra 5G if you will regularly use its large display, multitasking features, stylus support, and mobile connectivity. Before buying, compare the total price, accessory costs, warranty, and software compatibility with the alternatives available in your market.
